On January 8, 2026, City Cast Chicago – one of the city’s most popular daily podcasts – ran an episode focusing on the Center’s Youth Development Program. The episode highlighted the impactful work happening every day with and for young people across our communities, and showcasing what meaningful youth development looks like in action.

The episode gives a close look at our Youth Development program, which serves about 600 youth ages 5-17 annually across our three flagship communities: North Lawndale, Little Village, and Albany Park.

The episode also highlights the critical need to protect and grow funding for high-quality youth development programs: Currently, only one in three (up from one in four) Illinois youth who seek an afterschool program can access one.

Special shoutout and thanks to the staff members who helped to uplift our organization through their voices:

  • Kenny Riley, Senior Director of Youth Development
  • Jenny Lopez, Youth Development Instructor, Albany Park
  • Irma DeFreitas, Youth Development Instructor, Albany Park

Many thanks to those that supported this effort through their commitment behind the scenes:

  • Yolanda Luna-Mroz, Vice President of Youth Development
  • Ben Vazquez, Youth Development Senior Manager, Albany Park
  • Jerah McNair, Youth Development Assistant Instructor, Albany Park
